⋆ #5 | Crochet - Alien Cats ⋆

I had been watching way too many alien cat memes on instagram last month and upon seeing that hobbii was selling sparkly chenille yarn I thought "Why not make some alien cats myself?". I quickly sketched two silly cats in procreate to serve as a rough guide of what I wanted to make:

So I quickly ordered some yarn from hobbii called "Honey Bunny Shine" mainly because it sparkled so nicely on the preview pictures. Unfortunately, the yarn itself was rather disappointing but more on that further down below. First: the result!

The first cat (the small and round one) was done quickly because the body is an orb with some ears, paws and a tail sewn onto it. Eager as I am I had already started on the body of the second cat not realizing that this yarn HATES to be frogged. It is also incredibly rough because of the glitter... it is hard to pull the yarn through loops even with bigger hooks and feels like "nails on a chalkboard". Horrible feel and not at all fun to work with...... and to add insult to injury it does not even glitter a lot!!!!! But since I had already started my project and chenille yarn can't really be frogged without completely falling apart, I was brave and continued my project.

So, now that my little rant about this yarn is over... I guess it is not very surprising that the project did not really turn out as planned. I cut a lot of details of the smaller cat but, honestly? I think it looks even cuter that way! But I had to finish the second cat as well... which was not easy at all because I had run into a few issues mainly regarding the triangle-shaped head. After a lot of googling and brainstorming I ended up crocheting two triangles, added a few rounds of single crochets to one of them and then sewed them together. To achieve the arrow-head shape I pulled the excess yarn through the top of the head which kind of worked out, surprisingly. Last but not least I added two yellow triangles to act as ear-tips and I'm actually quite proud of myself that you cannot really see that they were sewed onto the head! x)

In the end, the tall cat ended up having kind of a double chin and weird looking legs... but I my brother and I had a good laugh about it, so all is good! Definitely learned a thing or two :)
